When I first wrote this blog post, I thought I only had a female nesting, but now I see that it's a male and female pair of Anna's hummingbirds that are nesting in low bushes near our backyard wall, just outside our kitchen window. Each time I go out to change the nectar in our hummingbird feeder, they pair fly out of the bush and hover very near to me, chirping and clicking. I'm trying to figure out whether they're saying, "Thank you so much!" Or else, "Hey, lady, get the hell away from our juice."
I hope it is a thank you.
In Las Vegas, two species stay year-round with us in the Summerlin area. The Anna's and the Costa's. Both are great fun. I'm including links below, so you can see a bit more about both types. And I hope to update this if I happen to see any babies from this pairing, although their nest is hidden very low inside a thick Nandina bush, so it's difficult to find.
